SRV PI/Co-Investigator

Demetria is a Research Scientist at the Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training (CHEST) at Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) where she oversees the implementation of various research projects to promote the health of LGBT individuals. This has included working collaboratively with project team members on T-Talk, an intervention developed specifically for transgender women that utilizes the supportive strength of other peers to increase resilience and reduce sexual and substance abuse risks. She is also the co-Lead to the management core of the ATN U19 grant, Scale it UP, which is investigating the implementation of evidence based intervention into adolescent HIV prevention and care clinics to address substance use, HIV risk reduction, couples HIV testing, provider communication, and HIV treatment adherence. Prior to CHEST, Demetria worked on numerous NIH funded HIV prevention projects in South Africa, Atlanta, and Milwaukee on topics related to brief risk reduction counseling for STI patients, alcohol and HIV risk, HIV medication adherence, and gender based violence.
