Principal Investigator

Dr. Emmanuel is board certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Infectious Disease. Prior to becoming Chair, Dr Emmanuel served as the Associate Dean for Clinical Research at USF and the Division Chief of Pediatric Infectious Disease. She was the Medical Director for the USF Florida HIV Program for children and adolescents from 1995-2012. The Program provides primary and specialty care to children and adolescents in Southwest Florida. She has served as the principle investigator for the USF Adolescent Trials Network since 2001 and previously was PI for the USF-India Fogarty International AIDS Training Program and International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group. Research interests include prevention of perinatal and adolescent HIV and antiretroviral drug treatment and co-morbidities of HIV. She has participated in NIH and industry-sponsored HIV clinical drug trials. Dr. Emmanuel has participated in HIV policy making at the national level as a member of the Committee on Pediatric AIDS for the AAP and the HIV Medicine Association.
