Ruben has been at CHEST since 2010 and is currently the Director of Recruitment and Retention. He came to CHEST after working at The NYC Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center where he conducted brief motivational interviewing on substance abuse within NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene STI clinics, also acting as the Follow-up Specialist conducting program evaluation. His background is in HIV testing, education and prevention, serving as Program Manager for an HIV prevention and care program in Ventura County, California for 4 years before moving to New York City in 2007. Ruben’s interest in public health extended as a Residential Recovery Counselor at Telecare Corporation, which served in the rehabilitation potential of people with serious mental illness in addition to being an active member of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in Ventura County.
Ruben has an interest in research related to intervention technologies, public health communication and non-profit marketing. He is currently planning to enroll in an MPH program in 2018.
