Ms. Shelly Buschur serves as a certified nurse midwife for the section of Allergy and Immunology for Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital. She brings 33 years of nursing experience and 30 years as a nurse midwife. Her interest in HIV was piqued in 1994 when she was offered an opportunity to share a research position with a few other nurse midwives seeing pregnant HIV positive women for PACTG studies.
In addition, she collected data for a perinatal cohort study called WITS. It quickly became the most interesting and enjoyable part of her job, and the scope of practice began to include prenatal care and deliveries for HIV positive women. She has been involved in HIV research since 1998, and currently working with the IMPAACT and PHACS networks doing NIH sponsored HIV perinatal research, and happy to be part of the prevention effort.
